Mintbreeze's Pride --- Chapter 4
"Inkspot! INKSPOT!" Mintbreeze yelled at her brother, who was now facing the fox.
Mintbreeze leered at the fox, "No, I'm going to help you!"
Inkspot looked at his sister and grinned, which was the perfect time for for the fox to leap.
"Inkspot!" She yelled, but it was too late, the orange canine had its jaws wrapped around the side of the cat's face.
He shook his head violently to throw the animal off while screaming in agony.
Mintbreeze launched herself at the duel. She clawed her way up the fox's back and stuck her thorn claws in his neck. He released her brother, who staggered away, and tried to throw Mintbreeze off. Her strong muscles kept her on top of him as she bit and scratched.
Within moments the fox ran off. Mintbreeze landed on the ground and ran to her twin.
"Are you alright?" She asked as his paws covered the black side of his face. Blood dripped onto the grass below.
"Mintbreeze, my eye." He whispered, "He bit into my eye."
Mintbreeze's face drained of any color. "Are you blind?!"
He nodded slowly, "Go get a medicine cat, please!"
"But I can't just leave you here! What if the fox come bac--"
Just then a patrol walked by. The deputy of Thunderclan, Heatwave, was leading. An apprentice was by her side. Next to her was Smallstorm, the medicine cat apprentice, and Faintcoat.
"What are you doing here!" Heatwave yelled. Her black fur rose on her back.
Mintbreeze looked at her brother, "Inkspot and I have a message for Snowmint. But a fox just attacked him!"
Smallstorm jumped away from the patrol and leaned over to Inkspot.
"His eye has been cut out." She said after moving his paws from his face. "I'm going to need some spiderwebs. A whole lot of them."
The apprentice next to Heatwave ran off. The deputy looked flustered and she leaned over to her mate. "Let's go get some more cats for the patrol. We'll find this fox." She looked at Mintbreeze. "Come with us. Smallstorm was looking for herbs and Beetlewing was about to join her. He should be here in a few moments. Come."
Her and Faintcoat began walking to the camp. Mintbreeze looked at her brother, who was slumped over with Smallstorm trying to relax him.
Mintbreeze walked carefully through the dense forest camp. Since it was new-leaf, leaves were everywhere and she could smell prey and milk very abundant.
Looking over at the nursery she could see Fawnsteps heavily pregnant. The tom, Silentsong was licking her beautiful brown and tabbty coat. A much bigger version of her walked up to Mintbreeze. She recognized him as the mate of Snowmint.
"Why would you like to see my mate?" He asked a little agitated.
Mintbreeze kept a composed face even though she felt nervous to talk to her father's first love, "I have some questions for her."
Sundeep snorted, "This is a little fishy if you ask me." He lead her over to the warriors den where Snowmint was talking to another she-cat.
"Oh hello!" She said looking at Mintbreeze. "You are a Windclan warrior."
"Yes," she said bowing her head, but then picking it up immediately. "My name is Mintbreeze. I am the daughter of Stagstar."
Snowmint's smile dropped. "Oh. Sundeep, Whitecoal, please excuse me."
The two cats left, confused, and Snowmint opened her mouth.
"Is something wrong? Did something happen to Stagwing?"
"Um, no. My father is fine. But he has been acting strange lately and I thought you might have something to do with it."
"Me?" She laughed a little, "I've just been here. What happened between me and Stagwing--star is in the past."
Mintbreeze snarled, "So...what happened between you and my father?!"
